Question:
Can you analyse the lyrics of 'You know my name' by Cris Cornell...?

...in relation with the opening sequence of 'James Bond: Casino Royale'?

If you take a life, do you know what you'll give,
Odds are, you won't like what it is,
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes I've deceived.

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights,
But you yourself are nothing so divine,
Just next in line,

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you,
The odds will betray you,
And I will replace you,
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfil you,
It longs to kill you,
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins,
You know my name.

If you come inside, things will not be the same,
When you return to the night,
If you think you've won,
You never saw me change,
The game that we have been playing,

I've seen this diamond cut through harder men,
than you yourself, but if you must pretend,
You may meet your end,
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you,
The odds will betray you,
And I will replace you,
You can't deny the prize; it may never fulfil you,
It longs to kill you,
Are you ready to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins,

You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name!
You know my name!
You know my name!

firstly read this article on wikipedia - the "Theme Song" section is good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Know_My_Name

That might help with getting your head around HOW to analyse it...

oh, and lots is just metaphor for gambling and casino games...

otherwise i cant be bothered to waste my time doing the whole song, but its things like...

well, it questions the act of murder. is there any good side to it? you could argue that taking a life gives opportunity for new life to exist (even though thatdoesn'tt make sense!)

when the sh*t hits the fan - would you stay by my side? even though all the people i have deceived will be there and will act mercilessly...

even angels can be shot down, but you're not even that amazing so how will you face the blows? you'll fall like the rest

don't know about the arming one's self section... its a bit complicated!

cold blood - a killer, losing life through killing others - taking their lives is causing his to deteriorate - not in a physical sense but maybe a moral sense.

"I've seen this diamond cut through harder men,

than you yourself, but if you must pretend,

You may meet your end,"

this whole bit is basically talking about bluffing when playing poker (you've seen the film right!?) diamond being a suit and also very hard/strong (sometimes used in a stange liquid form to edge blades of electric saws etc... dont know too much about that though!)

pretend - bluff

you may meet your end - if someone doesnt believe you and plays a better hand - you'll lose!

etc

oh - just thought! gambling as an addiction - well, you never win in a way that you stop and keep the money, you always waste it again...

the prize will never fulfil you - could be a reference to gambling...

bye! x
