In the previous answer to the question "What do the lyrics to Broken Arrow mean?" the chosen "best" answer said something like, "If you know Robbie Robertson then you'd know." Well I don't know Robbie Robertson. Tell me about him so I may know about the lyrics to the song. Thank you!

Hey,

I don't know what the first question was, but Broken Arrow was NOT written by Robbie Robertson, it was written by Neil Young, and first recorded by the Buffalo Springfield. As far as the meaning....Even Neil probably couldn't explain that satisfactorily. It's partly about fame, partly about the problems of being in a group (Buffalo Springfield had a lot of in-fighting, and didn't last long), and partly about Native Americans (which Neil wrote about in many songs like Pocahontas, Powderfinger, Cortez the Killer, etc.)

As far as Robbie Robertson, he was part of The Band (originally known as Levon & the Hawks), and apparently a huge egomaniac. According to Levon Helm's (the drummer) autobiography, he basically stole full songwriting credit for most of The Bands music.

Robbie Robertson was guitarist and leader of The band. The Band first gained notoriety as backup band for a couple of Bob Dylan tours (see album Before The Flood). Robertson like Neil Young is a fellow Canadian. Robertson broke up The Band in 1976 which is documented by a Martin Scorcese film "The Last Waltz". The song Broken Arrow was written by Robbie Robertson.

Neil Young wrote this after breaking up with the group due to what he calls "An identity crisis." He quickly returned to the band and recorded this.
